With Skype being phased out and replaced by Microsoft Teams, you may be wondering what this means for your Ecamm workflow. The good news? You have great options for continuing to produce high-quality video calls, interviews, and live streams with Ecamm.
Switching from Skype to Microsoft Teams
Since Microsoft owns Skype, Skype will become part of Microsoft Teams. If you’d like to keep using Microsoft’s ecosystem, you can still integrate Ecamm into your workflow through:
Virtual Camera (Ecamm Pro level feature) – Use Ecamm to produce and enhance your video before sending it into Teams, giving you a professional look and feel to your videos and allowing you to do things like add graphics, switch between cameras, and more.
NDI (Network Device Interface) – Bring Microsoft Teams guests into Ecamm with NDI, similar to how Skype guests worked in the past.
Using NDI with Ecamm and Microsoft Teams
You can bring video guests into Ecamm from Microsoft Teams using NDI. To do this, the admin of your Microsoft Teams account will need to turn NDI on at the account level. It's important to note that you'll need to redownload NDI every time Teams updates.
In Microsoft Teams choose Settings > App Permissions to allow NDI.
Once NDI has been turned on in Microsoft Teams for your account then you're ready to go.
When you've started a Teams call, make sure go to the "More" menu, select "Streaming", and then select "Broadcast over NDI." This will allow your Teams video feeds to show up in Ecamm.
You'll see the Teams video feeds show up in your Camera Switcher in Ecamm and you can add them into any Scene.
Alternative Options for Video Interviews
If you’ve been using Skype primarily for video interviews, now is the perfect time to switch to a more streamlined and high-quality solution:
Ecamm Live’s Interview Mode (Ecamm Pro level feature) – Bring guests into your Ecamm production without needing external software. Interview Mode provides high-quality video and audio, with easy guest management.
Ecamm For Zoom (Ecamm Pro level feature) – A professional Zoom integration that allows you to bring Zoom guests into Ecamm while maintaining video and audio quality.
If you’re on Ecamm Standard, you might be eligible for an extended free trial of Ecamm Pro to try out Interview Mode or Ecamm for Zoom. Contact Ecamm Support for details.
