Here are 3 ways to use your iOS or Android device's camera as a camera source in your Ecamm Live broadcasts!

Updated over a year ago

Phone cameras have come a long way over the years, and you may find yourself wanting to use your iPhone's camera as an additional camera source in your Ecamm Live broadcasts.

Here are three easy ways to do this, each with their own advantages (and disadvantages.) Wireless camera solutions typically require a dedicated 5 Ghz Wifi network for a smooth high-quality video stream. However they are easier to set up than a wired solution, and can also offer audio if needed.

Apple Continuity Camera

Apple's Continuity Camera feature is a great, built-in way for users of macOS Ventura or newer to use their iPhone as a wireless camera in Ecamm.

Wireless Using NDICam

Beside Continuity Camera, this is perhaps the simplest way to use your iPhone or iPad as a camera source. NDICam is an iOS app available on the iOS App Store ($9.99 USD). This app instantly turns your iOS device into a wireless camera and microphone. As long as it's on the same wireless network, Ecamm Live will detect it and add it to your camera switcher.

Wireless Using NDI®|HX Camera

Another NDI camera solution, NDI®|HX Camera is a $19.99 download on the iOS App Store and Google Play store for Android, It is made by Newtek, the creator of the NDI standard. Similar to NDICam, the app instantly turns your iOS device or Android device into a wireless camera and microphone. As long as its on the same wireless network, Ecamm Live will detect it and add it to your camera switcher.

Wired Using the Shoot App

And finally, it's possible to use your iPhone or iPad as a camera simply by sharing the device's screen while it's displaying an image from the camera. To do this, connect the iPhone or iPad to your Mac using the USB cable, and you'll see the device's screen show up as a camera source in Ecamm Live. Then, use an app such as Shoot - Clean Camera Feed ($2.99 USD) to put the device's camera on screen. See the guide linked below for set-up details.
