Streaming Platform Requirements

Details on limitations for various streaming platforms.

Updated over 3 months ago

When it comes to streaming, Ecamm Live is designed to handle the details. The app will automatically adjust your streaming settings based on which destinations you've chosen for streaming. Here are the limitations that we are aware of for common streaming destinations. To reiterate, Ecamm Live will automatically ensure that the requirements below are met.

YouTube Live

Easy! YouTube Live will accept any resolution, shape, frame rate, and bit rate. YouTube will then automatically transcode it to multiple frame sizes, allowing each viewer to choose their own viewing resolution.

  • Note that some viewers may not be offered a 1440p or 4K option if their viewing device does not support it.

  • YouTube's Ultra Low-Latency setting does not support 1440p or 4K resolution.

  • Stream title can only be 100 characters long.

  • Stream description text can only be 5000 characters long.

Instagram Live

Streams to Instagram can be any shape. However, most Instagram viewers are going to see your stream as 9x16 vertical, especially if they're watching on a phone. If you're not streaming in this shape, these viewers will see a cropped video stream. In this case, keep in mind that you need to really focus most of your stream on the area in the middle.

  • Instagram recommends vertical 720p30, but other sizes work okay in our tests and will be transcoded to 720 for Instagram viewers.

  • Instagram Live broadcasts have a maximum duration of 1 hour.

Facebook Live

Facebook Live streamers need to meet the following requirements:

  • The Facebook account must be at least 60 days old.

  • Facebook Pages and "professional mode" Facebook Profiles need at least 100 followers.

Facebook Live will accept just about any resolution, shape, frame rate, and bit rate. Facebook will then automatically transcode it to multiple frame sizes, allowing each viewer to choose their own viewing resolution.

  • Facebook does not accept 4K resolution when streaming at 24 or 25 FPS.

  • Although it will happily accept 1440p and 4K streams, Facebook will not offer viewers resolutions higher than 1080p. In some cases only 720p may be offered.

  • Stream title can only be 140 characters long.

LinkedIn Live

  • 1440p is their maximum streaming resolution.

  • 30 FPS is the maximum frame rate.

  • Normal 16x9 is the only shape accepted.

  • 6 Mbps is the maximum video bit rate.

  • Maximum duration of 4 hours.

  • Stream title can only be 75 characters long.

  • Stream description text can only be 3000 characters long.

  • Scheduled live events can be started no earlier than 15 minutes before the scheduled start time.

  • Ecamm Live can't edit or delete scheduled live events once created. (You must manually make changes on the LinkedIn website.)

  • Ecamm Live won't receive comments from LinkedIn Live.
