RØDE's RØDECaster Pro II is a great, feature-rich audio interface for use with Ecamm. It can add some powerful audio features to your broadcast.
Troubleshooting Audio Issues with Rodecaster Pro II and Ecamm
Resolving Echo During Broadcasts
If you experience echo during broadcasts, ensure you are using the Chat input instead of the main output when connecting the Rodecaster Pro II to your Mac. This adjustment prevents your Mac's output from being looped back into the mic channels, reducing echo.
Resolving Microphone Errors
If Ecamm prompts you to change microphones when using a Rodecaster, follow these steps:
Power-cycle the Rodecaster by turning it off, waiting a few seconds, and turning it back on.
Reconnect the Rodecaster to your computer using a different USB port (preferably a direct port on the computer, not a hub).
Open Ecamm Live’s audio preferences and reselect the Rodecaster as the microphone/input. These steps often resolve device handshake issues causing microphone errors.
Integration with Platforms like Zoom
When integrating Ecamm with Zoom, you may encounter issues such as not hearing the audience or the audience not hearing your video recordings. To resolve these:
Change your Audio Profile in Zoom to Original sound for musicians or Live performance audio. This disables Zoom's default echo and noise suppression, which can interfere with non-voice sounds.
Alternatively, disable Zoom's Audio Processing in the Zoom tab of Ecamm Preferences. This ensures your audio is transmitted as intended without interference.
There are two important but easy set-up steps for using RCP 2 (or RCPII) with Ecamm: Proper setup not only ensures optimal performance but also helps prevent common audio issues such as echo or microphone errors.
Best Practices for Audio Setup
Always verify your audio output and input settings in both Ecamm and connected platforms.
Use mix-minus configurations to prevent audio feedback loops.
Regularly update your software and firmware for both Ecamm and Rodecaster Pro II to ensure compatibility.
Pick The Rodecaster Pro II Chat Input
In Ecamm, find the Sound Levels window. If you don't see it, pick Sound Levels from the Window menu at the top of the screen.
The first row of the Sound Levels window is your microphone input. Click the popup menu to select the device. You may see more than one option there for the RodeCaster device. Be sure to pick the entry called Rodecaster Pro II Chat. This input is specifically designed to prevent audio feedback loops, such as echo, by isolating the microphone channels from the program mix.
Turn On Stereo Mode In Ecamm
In the Audio section of Ecamm's preferences, pick the checkbox labeled Map Input Channels 1 And 2 To Left and Right Stereo. This will use only channels 1 and 2 from the RodeCaster, and ignore any other input channels. Properly mapping these channels can also help reduce audio feedback and ensure a cleaner broadcast experience.
